Inglis joins LSG squad, Breetzke leaves tournament for personal reasons

LSG's INR 8.60 crore signing is available for selection right away ahead of Monday's clash against Mumbai Indians
Josh Inglis has joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad ahead of the team's next game on May 4. He is available for selection right away. Meanwhile, ESPNcricinfo understands LSG's South African batter Matthew Breetzke has left the tournament for personal reasons.
Inglis, who had informed franchises of his limited availability for IPL 2026 before the auction due to his own wedding, was released by Punjab Kings (PBKS) and bought by LSG for INR 8.60 crore between seasons. His wedding took place on April 18 in Margaret River, Western Australia. A wicketkeeper-batter, Inglis scored 278 runs in 11 innings at an average of 30.88 and strike-rate of 162.57 for PBKS.
Inglis has already begun training with the LSG squad. Monday's game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium will be both teams' ninth fixture of the season in what is set to be a bottom-of-the-table clash between two struggling sides with only two wins each so far.
Breetzke, meanwhile, has returned to South Africa. He had left the LSG squad before the April 26 game at home against Kolkata Knight Riders, which went down to a super over. It is understood Breetzke went back primarily because a close family member on his wife's side died recently. There is no information yet on whether Breetzke will return to the tournament.
Inglis could very well slip right into the LSG playing XII with the franchise's overseas batters having limited returns this season. Nicholas Pooran is averaging 10.25 this season, while openers Aiden Markram (24.12) and Mitchell Marsh (26.50) have failed to repeat their performances from last year too.
In the week coming up, LSG have three games across Monday (vs MI in Mumbai), Thursday (vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow) and Sunday (vs Chennai Super Kings in Chennai) as they look to bring their season back on track.
