Fortuin calls for tighter fielding as Proteas eye T20 tri-series final

Proteas Edge Closer to Final, But Fortuin Demands Discipline

South Africa's got the result they wanted but not the performance they'd back at scale. Beating Zimbabwe by 43 runs in the 2026 Namibia T20I TriNation Series (Aug 28 – Sept 6) moved them up the table, but captain Bjorn Fortuin isn't celebrating yet — he's auditing.

The numbers that mattered vs Zim:

- LhuanDre Pretorius was the standout asset, firing 94 off 51 (SR ~184). Brevis backed him with a steady 41.

- That took SA to 185/7 in 20 after choosing to bat first.

- Zimbabwe collapsed to 142 all out. Fortuin led from the front with 4/24 in 3.4 overs (Econ ~22), and Duan Jansen chipped in 3/21.

Fortuin's read was blunt: happy with the win, but they were "a bit loose with the ball at the end" and wanted more with the bat. His message — don't take wins for granted, especially after that opening-day loss to hosts Namibia.

What's on the line:

- Final group clash vs Namibia is tmr (Sept 4).

- Triseries final on Sept 6.

The play is clear — SA want to correct the Namibia result and walk into the business end of the series with confidence. Fortuin's fixating on fielding discipline and collective standards to plug those loose moments. If they tighten up, the final is well within reach. If they don't, this tournament still punishes sloppy execution.

Net net: talent's there, execution's the risk. Watch how they respond against the hosts.
