Ireland international takes brother’s catch to help Tom Curran complete first-ever ETPL hat-trick

Curran's Hat-Trick Heroics Fire Rockers to ETPL Summit

Edinburgh Castle Rockers served up a dominant 59-run win over Belfast Wolves in the ETPL on Wed (Sept 2), and Tom Curran was the head chef of the show. His spell of 4-2-0-3 — including a rare hat-trick — was the secret ingredient that bundled the Wolves out for just 130 while chasing 190.

Curran became the first bwl to lift a hat-trick in the inaugural ETPL edition. He split the treble across two overs, dismissing Fred Klaassen and Matthew Humphreys off the last two balls of the 16th over, before sending Mark Adair back on the first delivery of the 18th to complete the treble. The family drama? Mark's own brother, Ross Adair, plucked the catches for both Klaassen and Mark — while Curran stumped Humphreys. To top it off, Mark had earlier cleaned up his brother for a quick 9 off 9 after he got tagged for a four. 👨‍👦‍👦

Trent Boult was the sous-chef to Curran's star player, ripping through 3 wickets for a stingy 16 in his 3 overs. But the player of the match went to JJ Smuts, whose sizzling 98 off 60 (11 fours, 3 sixes) set up the Rockers' 189 on the board.

League standings

With this win, the Rockers climb to the top of the points table — 3 wins from 4 (1 NR), sitting alongside Rotterdam Dockers as the only two unbeaten teams this season.

Curran's pedigree

This is only Curran's 2nd career hat-trick. Six years ago, in July 2019, he sent home David Lloyd, Colin Ingram and Billy Root back-to-back for Surrey vs Glamorgan in the T20 Blast, finishing 3-0 in 2 overs as Surrey bowled the opposition out for 44 and won by 97. Two hat-tricks, same class. 🔥
