BCCI Quashes Speculation On Rohit’s ODI Future, Dismisses Rumours On Director Of Cricket Role
Rohit Safe: BCCI Squashes ODI Future & Director Role Rumours After Key Review Meet
Fellow fans, here's what went down in today's crucial BCCI review meeting.
Rohit Sharma's ODI spot is NOT up for debate. Secretary Devajit Saikia shut down all speculation bluntly: "He's playing superbly in all matches. In the last match he scored 138-148. So why is there speculation?" Straight talk, no room for the tabloids.
Who attended? Head coach Gautam Gambhir, CoE head VVS Laxman, T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer, and Test/ODI captain Shubman Gill. Also present: President Mithun Manhas, Joint Secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, and interim CEO Hemang Amin. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar missed it—out of Mumbai on short notice, couldn't even join online.
Why the meeting? India's been struggling overseas—T20I losses to England & Ireland, plus the ODI series defeat. This was the long-pending review (was meant for July, finally held today). The board mapped out a roadmap targeting the 2027 ODI World Cup, including strategies for future SENA tours.
Other rumours killed: No discussion on Agarkar's tenure, selection committee changes, or hiring a Director of Cricket. "We did not have any such discussions, nor did we have such intentions," Saikia said.
Upcoming schedule ahead: T20Is vs Afghanistan, whiteball games vs West Indies, Asian Games T20 in Japan, multiformat NZ tour, ODIs vs Zimbabwe, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy vs Australia at home.
Selectors will decide team combos for the WI and NZ series separately. More soul-searching expected as India gears up for a heavy year. 🏏
