UPT20: Bhuvneshwar Takes Lucknow Falcons Into Final With 47-run Win Over Meerut Mavericks

Bhuvneshwar's Seam Magic Seals Falcons' First Final Berth

Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced a clinic in seam bowling as the Lucknow Falcons defended a modest 145 to beat the Meerut Mavericks by 47 runs in Qualifier 1 of the UP T20 League at Ekana Stadium last night. The win sends the Falcons to Sunday's final for the first time in their history, while the Mavericks drop to Qualifier 2.

After a brief rain delay, the Falcons scraped to 145/likely in 19.4 overs, with Himanshu Singh top-scoring 61 off 45 balls. Legspinner Zeeshan Ansari—joining post Duleep Trophy commitments—added 3/14.

Chasing under overcast skies, Bhuvneshwar struck with a devastating 4-ov spell of 10-1, including 18 dot balls. He dismantled the Mavericks top order, squeezing them to 36/7 before bundling them out for 98. His read of the surface—full-length seamers exploiting early swing and occasional bounce—was decisive.

"I was nervous with just 140 on the board, I won't lie. But I knew a strong powerplay could defend it," said Player of the Match Bhuvneshwar. He credited technical rhythm over rigid spot-bowling: "If you run in well, load, and land well, 99% of the time the ball falls in the right areas." With two wickets in the first over, he said no pep talk was needed—his team was already fired up.

A night to remember for the Falcons and their skipper.
