Samson-Sooryavanshi to open? Ex-India cricketer suggests new opening combination

New Look Top Order? Dasgupta Throws Out Sanju-Vaibhav Opening Combo for Afg Series 🏏

Sanju Samson is back in India's T20I squad for the Afghanistan series, getting another shot at reclaiming his spot at the top of the order.

Remember, Samson was dropped from the playing XI during the Zimbabwe tour after three low scores—baffling for many, especially since he was Player of the Tournament in this year's World Cup win. Since then, the management has kept tinkering with the batting order.

Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was fast-tracked into the senior side after a stellar IPL, opening alongside Abhishek Sharma. Now with Samson returning, ex-wk Deep Dasgupta thinks the Afg series is the perfect lab to test a combo we haven't seen yet.

"We haven't seen the Sanju-Vaibhav combination yet," Dasgupta noted on YouTube. "So far we've seen Abhishek-Vaibhav and Abhishek-Sonju. It's not a bad idea to try Sanju and Vaibhav together."

Vaibhav's Making Noise

The 15yo has strengthened his case for the top spot. Against Zimbabwe, he finished as top scorer with 151 runs in 3 Inn (avg 50.33, SR 196.10), including a match-winning 81 and two fifties—Player of the Series. He also helped India seal their first series win under new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer (after defeats to Ireland & England).

Not Dropping Anyone

Dasgupta was quick to clarify—he's NOT calling for anyone to be dropped. Just wants every combo and player to get proper game time before the World Cup final deciders.

Samson back + Vaibhav rising = the opening slot stays a hot topic throughout the series. Let's see what clicks! 💛
