Ten Nightmare English Summers: Can Pakistan Avoid the Worst Touring Spot in 50 Years?

Pakistan's Test tour of England 2026 has gone sideways faster than expected, and the side is creeping toward becoming the worst overseas visitors on English soil in a half-century. But before we panic, let's look at the company they'd be keeping.

The List: Worst Test Tours to England (Last 50 Years)

Fifty years ago, England endured some ugly home phases—dropping losses to West Indies (1976–88), Australia (1989–2001), and Pakistan (1987–2001). Since the new millennium, touring teams have struggled more, with eight of the top ten entries landing in the last 22 years.

Here's how the worst offenders stack up:

- 10. Australia 2013 – 5 Tests, 2 draws, 3 losses. Bold declarations everywhere, but rain and bad light kept them from a win.

- 9. Australia 1985 – 6 Tests, 1 win, 2 draws, 3 losses. A transitional side simply wasn't good enough to dent David Gower (732 runs @ 81.33).

- 8. West Indies 2000 – 5 Tests, 1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses. Led at Lord's, then Andy Caddick (5/16, 5/14) dismantled them twice more.

- 7. West Indies 2024 – 3 Tests, 3 losses. Never reached 200 in six innings; Kavem Hodge's single hundred was the only bright spot.

- 6. India 2014 – 5 Tests, 1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses. A Jadeja-Anderson tiff aside, India collapsed five times under 200, ending 94 all out at The Oval.

- 5. Sri Lanka 2016 – 3 Tests, 1 draw, 2 losses. Rolled for 91, 119, 101 in their first three innings—years after their epic two-Test series win.

- 4. Pakistan 2006 – 4 Tests, 1 draw, 3 losses (incl. 1 forfeiture). Famous for the Oval forfeiture and Inzamam's hit-wicket, but otherwise ordinary despite Mohammad Yousuf's 631 runs @ 90.14.

- 3. West Indies 2004 – 4 Tests, 4 losses. A new-gen England served up the same humiliation the Windies used to dish out in the '80s.

- 2. India 2011 – 4 Tests, 4 losses. Dhoni taking off his pads to bowl at Lord's sums up the desperation. England won two by an innings.

- 1. Australia 1977 – 5 Tests, 2 draws, 3 losses. The Kerry Packer shocker hit before the first ball; the Australians never fought back.

What About Pakistan 2026?

Here's the stark stat: since the World Wars, no men's Test team has left England without reaching 200 at least once. If Pakistan suffer that ignominy, they'd top this list. But they can still turn it around—win at Edgbaston and escape the ignominy entirely.
