'Ye Kya Kiya Tune?' - Suresh Raina reveals MS Dhoni's shocked reaction to his retirement decision

Raina Reveals Dhoni's Iconic Reaction When He Announced Retirement

Folks, let's talk about one of the most iconic moments in Indian cricket's farewell chapter. Suresh Raina just opened up about MS Dhoni's reaction the day both legends called it a day internationally—Aug 15, 2020.

The Timeline

Both were inside the CSK biobubble ahead of that IPL season. MS announced via Instagram first. Raina followed less than an hour later. When he walked into the dressing room and dropped the "It's done," Dhoni's immediate reply? The legendary "Ye Kya Kiya Tune?" — What did you just do?

Turns out, MS already knew Raina was going to retire that same day. They'd decided together. But the timing still caught the captain off guard.

The Sacrifice That Defined Their Bond

Here's the part that hits harder than the drama. Raina revealed MS gave up his own batting spot to promote Raina up the order. When not captaining, MS used to bat higher under Ganguly. But he voluntarily dropped down the order—"Yuvi go up, Suresh, you play here, I'm sitting back."

That move shaped Raina's entire approach. His take on repaying that faith:

> "Everyone has money, but you need a big heart to spend it. We had that heart for friendship."

The Numbers

226 ODIs, 78 T20Is, 18 Tests. Last pro match in the 2021 IPL. Four IPL titles with CSK, all alongside MS.

A partnership built on trust, sacrifice, and mutual respect. Few bonds in cricket come close.
