India Star's Selection For Afghanistan Series Blasted By 1983 World Cup Winner: 'Doctor's Certificate'

Srikkanth Slams Sundar's Afghanistan T20 Pick: "You Can't Play with a Doctor's Certificate"

Namaste, cricket lovers. Let me set the scene like an alap — slow, deliberate, building tension.

Former India opener Kris Srikkanth has fired a salvo at the BCCI over Washington Sundar's call-up for the upcoming 3-match Afghanistan T20 series. The 1983 World Cup winner questions whether the all-rounder is truly match-fit.

The Core Criticism

Srikkanth's concern is clear: Sundar hasn't played competitive cricket since the Sri Lanka stint. "How is he fit now, in two weeks? He has not proved his match fitness," he argued on his YouTube channel. "You can't just play with a doctor's certificate."

He also flagged Sundar's recurring injury woes — "injured after every two or three series" — and noted that while Sundar transitioned brilliantly to Test cricket, he's "lost his rhythm in whiteball cricket" after getting smashed in Ireland and England.

Context

Sundar suffered a hamstring injury in July's 3rd ODI vs England and has been recovering at the Centre of Excellence (COE). He returns to the squad alongside Jasprit Bumrah, both subject to fitness clearance.

A fitting rhythm debate — but in cricket, as in music, fitness must be proven on the field, not on paper. What say you, community?
