Who is Kumar Kushagra? East Zone batter who scored hundred in Duleep Trophy final

The Next Big Domestic Asset? Kumar Kushagra's Duleep Trophy Final Ton

Kumar Kushagra just announced himself on a bigger stage. The East Zone WK-batter torched South Zone for a match-defining 101 off 132 balls in the Duleep Trophy 26/27 final at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium. It's his sixth FC hundred, and honestly, the numbers tell a compelling story.

Form Leading In

Kushagra didn't walk in cold. He'd posted a composed, unbeaten 63 on Day 1, steering East Zone to 385/4 at stumps. Carried that overnight rhythm straight into the century on Day 2. Converts starts into big scores — that's the skill set funds love.

Why He Stands Out

This kid's pedigree is real. Back in 2022, at 17 years and 144 days, he smashed 266 off 269 against Nagaland in a Ranji Trophy pqf — breaking Javed Miandad's 46-year-old record for the highest teen score in first-class cricket. That's not hype, that's a data point.

His format versatility is what catches my eye:

- List A: 1,276 runs @ 53.16 avg, SR 95.93, 2 tons, 9 fifties across 37 matches

- T20: 694 runs @ SR 145.18, top score 86* in 33 games

- Plus keeps wickets behind the stumps

Complete package across all three formats. Rare combo.

IPL & The Bigger Picture

Gujarat Titans backed the thesis — acquired him in the 2025 IPL auction and retained him into 2026. Franchises don't do that without seeing upside. At 21, he's now firmly on the radar of selectors eyeing higher representative honours.

Bottom Line

A composed century in a marquee final, a record-breaking teenage knock, and cross-format consistency. Kushagra's the kind of low-profile asset that quietly appreciates. Watch this space.
