Miller, De Kock Named In Full-strength South Africa Squad For Australia ODIs

South Africa Name Full-Strength Squad For Australia ODIs 🏏

South Africa have announced a near-full-strength 16-member squad for the ODI series vs Australia, kicking off Sept 24 in Durban. It's clearly a strategic step toward the ODI World Cup 2027.

Key returns: Regular capt Temba Bavuma is back, while senior batters David Miller and Quinton de Kock (both not centrally contracted but played the T20 WC earlier this year) are in the mix.

Bowling update: Gerald Coetzee comes back into the fold—his last ODI was the 2023 WC. Coach Shukri Conrad noted he's "bowling nice and quickly." Kagiso Rabada is OUT for the ODIs (hamstring) but racing to be fit for the Tests. Anrich Nortje was NOT considered for this series—Conrad says he hasn't done enough for now, though a Bangladesh series return is possible.

Notable omissions: Dewald Brevis misses out as he prepares for the Test season via first-class cricket. Aiden Markram joins for the 2nd & 3rd ODIs.

Conrad's take: The middle order needs that balance—explosive but able to absorb pressure and take innings deep. Six ODIs before facing England (who'll field a shadow squad for their WC prep).

Full squad: Bavuma (capt), Baartman, Bosch, Breetzke, Coetzee, de Kock, de Zorzi, Fortuin, Jansen, Maharaj, Maphaka, Markram, Miller, Ngidi, Rickelton, Stubbs.
