Kevin Pietersen To Put On England Jersey 1st Time In 12 Years, Given Important Role Before World Cup 2027

A New Raga Begins: KP Returns to England's Fold
Friends, there is a certain rhythm to a comeback—one that reminds me of the alap that opens every raga, slow and deliberate, before the true melody emerges. And so it is that Kevin Pietersen is to don the England whiteball jersey again for the first time since 2014.
The ECB announced this Monday that KP has been named a specialist mentor to England's men's whiteball team, joining Brendon McCullum's setup ahead of next year's World Cup in southern Africa. This is no ceremonial role—he'll embed with the squad for September's T20 & ODI series vs Sri Lanka, ride along on the winter tours to Australia and South Africa, the summer home clashes with Pakistan and New Zealand, and the 50-over World Cup (SA/Zim/Namibia, Oct 4 – Nov 21).
KP on the honour: "Putting on the England uniform again for the first time since 2014 is a profound honor... To be a part of Brendon's think tank over the next 12 months is a fantastic opportunity."
McCullum on KP: "He has a unique understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level... I'm really looking forward to working together."
A note on the man's pedigree—he clocked 5,500+ runs in 136 ODIs, 37 T20s, and a towering 8,181 in 104 Tests before his troubled exit following the fractious 2013-14 Ashes. Last season he lent his expertise to the Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
For a man who once composed a raga for India's Test victory, it seems fitting that cricket and music continue to weave together in his story. The first notes are being tuned. 🎶
