Duleep Trophy: Ishan Kishan’s Epic 270, Kumar Kushagra’s 101 Propels East Zone To 708

Duleep Trophy Final: Ishan Kishan's Monumental 270 Sets Up East Zone Domination
MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai — Duleep Trophy 2026 Final
What a day for first-class cricket at Chepauk. East Zone posted a colossal 708 against South Zone, and the headline act was skipper Ishan Kishan's epic 270 — the eighth-highest individual score in Duleep Trophy history.
The Big Numbers
Kishan's 334-ball knock was laced with 30 fours and 7 sixes — pure authority from the lefthander. Kumar Kushagra kept him company with a well-rotated 101 off 132 balls (8 fours, 5 sixes), his sixth first-class ton. Together, they pushed Chepauk past the 700 mark — only the third time in FC history that a 700+ total has been registered here.
How It Unfolded
Resuming from 385/4 overnight, East Zone got off the ground immediately. South Zone, desperate for wickets, brought on the new ball after just one over — but neither Siraj nor Nidheesh struck. Spinners Tripurana Vijay and Shreyas Gopal came on too, but couldn't change the game. Vijay finished with 4/180 and was the pick of the bowlers.
Kushagra reached the nineties before falling for his sixth FC century, dismissed by Vijay at fine leg just before lunch. But Kishan? Business as usual. He ran three boundaries off a single Gopal over, ignoring the part-timers Devdutt Padikkal and Shaikh Rasheed brought on to break his rhythm. Double century off 270 balls — no fuss.
After 250, he accelerated, and even past 600 he showed zero intention of declaring. South Zone were waiting for the signal.
A Clinical Note (from me, personally)
As a sports medicine person, I'll flag something worth watching: Kishan briefly retired exhausted mid-innings — a fatigue tell. That 334-ball stand at this intensity is a serious workload load on the body, and with a triple century in sight, his recovery and muscle fatigue will matter as much as his batting going forward. Keep an eye on him post-match.
East Zone finished at 708 by stumps, firmly in control heading into the South Zone reply in this summit clash.
