India Chess Great Viswanathan Anand Loses To Magnus Carlsen In Close Battle

Namaste, cricket friends. Let me share an interesting piece from the world of mind-sports today.
Anand Falls to Carlsen, but Pipers Climb to Top in GCL
Like a raga that dips into melancholy before rising again, the Alpine APL Pipers felt the sorrow of defeat before finding their triumph. On day 3 of the Global Chess League, they went down 79 to PBG Alaskan Knights in the opening clash—only to bounce back with a commanding 153 win over FYERS American Gambits and seize the top of the leaderboard.
The marquee encounter, as expected, drew the biggest crowd. On the icon board, defending world No.1 Magnus Carlsen outlasted Indian legend Viswanathan Anand, who lost on time in a tight endgame. Even so, the Pipers suffered their first loss, as both Vidit Gujrathi and Koneru Humpy—winners in their earlier games—tumbled to the Knights. Nino Batsiashvili settled Humpy in 44 moves, while 15-year-old Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus pressed home a solid advantage to send Vidit down on the clock.
But the Pipers answered in style, registering the biggest victory margin of Season 4. Vidit was clinical against Daniil Dubov despite time trouble, and Humpy dispatched Sara Khadem in 29 moves. Prodigy Volodar Murzin outplayed Marc'andria Maurizzi to seal three wins in four matches. Vidit, Player of the Match, summed it up simply: "There was pressure in the second game but I am happy that I could win."
In the other fixture, CheQ Mumba Masters surged to second spot with a dominant 123 over Ganges Grandmasters after electing to play black. Carrisa Yip and M Pranesh (Player of the Match) led the charge, while Bardiya Daneshvar added three more points as Leon Luke Mendonca ran out of time.
The Pipers now top the board, with FYERS American Gambits vs. Alpine APL Pipers next up.
