As captains, Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill are like North Pole and South Pole: Ashish Nehra

Nehra on GT Captaincy: Hardik and Gill Are North Pole, South Pole

Former fast-bwl Ashish Nehra just dropped some honest analysis on the GT dugout, contrasting two very different captain types who've led the Titans.

The comparison

Nehra put it bluntly: Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill couldn't be more different as leaders. "North Pole and South Pole," he said at the CAB Awards in Kolkata. Both came in with limited prior captaincy XP, but both learned on the job—just like Nehra himself did back in the day.

The track record

Hardik: IPL title in the 2022 inaugural season, plus a final in 2023. 37 wins, 33 losses as GT captain. Clean numbers.

Gill: Took over after Hardik left, steered GT to the 2026 final. Only 1-2 seasons in the role, but he's now leading India in Tests and ODIs too—that's the real growth indicator.

Leadership styles

- Hardik: Chatty, conversational, trusted his coaching setup fully but wasn't afraid to push back when things went sideways. Keen learner.

- Gill: Reserved, a bit shy, talks less but observes everything. Nehra calls him a "keen observer" who learns from others. Still a work in progress at 26-27, but the trajectory is clear.

Bottom line

No right or wrong approach—just different personalities running the show. Gill's getting better fast with international captaincy under his belt. Watch this space; the Titans' leadership curve is pointing up.
