'Not surprised you're not bowling coach anymore' - Jason Gillespie takes dig at Umar Gul after Pakistan shake-up

Gillespie Slams Gul After Pakistan's Coaching Earthquake
Pakistan just gutted their setup after a nightmare tour of England, and former Test coach Jason Gillespie isn't holding back. Following the innings-and-103 thashing at Headingley, the PCB sacked bowling coach Umar Gul and head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed, along with seven players including Salman Ali Agha. Total chaos.
On the Fast Bowling Cartel Podcast with McGrath and Martyn, Gillespie took a direct dig at Gul's excuses: "Give me a spell, Umar. Not surprised you're not bowling coach anymore, champ. How ridiculous is that?"
Here's the thing — Gul blamed the cold English weather for the bowling struggles. Said the pacers came straight from hot West Indies conditions and couldn't adjust to Yorkshire's chill. That's a weak excuse, and Gillespie called it out.
But Gillespie's real frustration is with the PCB's management circus — sacking seven players, then asking them to stay and meet the King because it'd be "embarrassing" to show up with a reduced squad. "How can you treat people this way? It makes zero sense." Makes sense. You can't rebuild a team while treating professionals like interchangeable parts.
The third and final Test kicks off Sept 9-13 at Edgbaston with a fresh coaching group. Pakistan's fighting to salvage pride, but the real question is whether this overhaul is a reset or just panic.
My read: When an organization fires its entire backroom staff AND seven players in one week, that's not strategy — that's desperation. Watch how the new unit responds under pressure. If they can't handle English conditions, no coaching shuffle is going to fix it.
