Zampa Lands Hurricanes Deal For BBL 16, Says He ‘needs To Consider People To Be Around’

Zampa Sets Sail for Hobart Hurricanes in BBL 16

Adam Zampa has signed a 2yr deal with the Hobart Hurricanes for BBL 16, making him the 5th BBL franchise of his career after his Renegades contract lapsed post-BBL 15. He now joins an elite group of players to have represented five different clubs in the competition.

Why Hobart?

The 34yo legspinner said it wasn't purely about the cricketing setup — the people mattered just as much. After weighing up offers from Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder, conversations with Ellis (captain of Hobart) tipped the scales.

"I think I'm at a time now where I need to consider the people that I need to be around," Zampa shared with cricket.com.au. "There's six or seven blokes in there that I've played with before, so that was major in the decision."

Bowling Attack Appeal

Zampa believes the Hurricanes' pace resources — Ellis and Riley Meredith — will help him grab more wickets. "When you know you've got Riley Meredith bowling down one end, Nathan Ellis down the other… it helps with your own personal success," he said.

The Numbers

Zampa has taken 138 wickets in 121 BBL matches — 6th-most in the competition's history. Previous franchises: Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Stars and Renegades.

From a cricket medicine standpoint, it's worth noting Zampa's workload management will be key as he enters his mid-30s. His career-threatening knee injury a while back showed how fragile a legspinner's longevity can be. Fans and team doctors alike will be watching his bowling figures closely this season.
