Cricket West Indies appoints Bob Carter as batting consultant

CWI taps Bob Carter as Batting Consultant — the depth question CWI can't ignore
Cricket West Indies has closed on its batting rebuild. Bob Carter's in as Batting Consultant on an initial 1-yr deal, effective Sept 1, 2026. His remit spans senior men, senior women, and age-group cricket — basically the entire talent pipeline.
The pedigree: 3+ decades at elite level. 21 years inside NZC's high-performance machine (High-Performance Coach 2012 → Aug 2025), including a head-coaching stint with NZ Women (2019–22). Pre-NZ, he ran cricket at Northamptonshire. This isn't a political hire — it's a credentials-heavy one.
The read: Carter's own words say it all — "build the base to produce future generations of world-class players." He's coming in to sharpen both player batsmanship and coach design skills across the regional setup.
Why now, and why it matters: This is where the numbers get interesting. CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe flagged 6+ global events in the next 24–30 months. Men's side hit the ICC World Cup Qualifier in Feb–Mar 2027. Batting depth consolidation isn't a "nice to have" — it's a deadline-driven necessity.
First move: Regional tour later this month, all six first-class territories (Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad, Leewards, Windwards). Early assessment of batting talent + coaching capacity across domestic cricket.
Bottom line: CWI's batting has been a value gap for years. Carter's the specialist they're bringing in to close it ahead of a packed international calendar. Watch the WC Qualifier run-up — that's the real test.
