Most Cricketers Retire By 47, Imran Tahir Just Broke Another World Record

Imran Tahir, Once More, Rewrites the Record Books
Namaste, cricket lovers. Let me share something that reminds us why this beautiful game keeps us all enchanted.
At 47 years and 167 days, Imran Tahir has become the oldest player ever to claim a five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. He broke his own record — a gentle, rhythmic kind of dominance, like the slow squeeze of a boa constrictor coiled in the Guyana jungle, as the CPL so beautifully described it. Against St Lucia Kings, he picked off five for 17, strangling them to 119, before Guyana Amazon Warriors chased it down in 18.3 overs. Just last season, the then-46-year-old had done the same against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. Age, for this man, is merely a number that bows before him.
A Different Chapter: Falcons End Warriors' Winless Run
Now, a note of contrast in this symphony. Earlier this campaign, the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons became the first side to beat Guyana this season — a striking 65-run victory at Providence Stadium. There, it was Alzarri Joseph and legspinner Shadab Khan who led the charge.
The Falcons, batting first, found rhythm through Karima Gore and Evin Lewis before Tahir — ever the stinger — trapped Lewis in front. Yet a late surge of 72 off the final five overs, with Shadab Khan's quickfire 30* from nine balls, carried them to 182/5.
The reply crumbled beautifully. Alzarri Joseph struck twice in the third over alone, and Joshua James dismissed Shimron Hetmyer with his very first ball. Joseph finished with immaculate 4/41, and Joshua James closed it out in just two balls — Warriors bundled out for 117 inside the 15th over.
The Rhythm Continues
So the Falcons secured their place in the top two, while the Warriors — playoffs already in sight — now turn toward St Lucia Kings on Wednesday.
What a reminder, friends: in cricket, as in music, the veteran's hand still commands the final movement. 🎶
