Finn Allen joins Melbourne Stars on three-year deal for BBL|16

Finn Allen to Melbourne Stars: A Three-Year Bet on Explosive Top-Order Firepower

Melbourne Stars have moved decisively to land New Zealand opener Finn Allen on a 3-year deal for BBL|16, pulling him away from Perth Scorchers after a standout two-season run. He's the 12th name on Cameron White's 18-man squad—and the first men's signing now that the contracting embargo is lifted.

The track record that makes this a no-brainer: Allen won the Simon Katich Medal as BBL|15's best overseas player, topping the run chart with 466. He smashed a record 38 sixes in a single season, including a blistering 101 off 53 vs the Renegades, and chipped in crucial 49 and 36 as Perth rolled to their sixth title. This is a guy who's been doing it on the biggest stages—unbeat 101 off 33 in the T20 WC semifinal vs South Africa, plus a KKR IPL century against Delhi.

Why it matters for the Stars: They're the only franchise still hunting their first Big Bash crown, and this is about fixing the one gap. Pairing Allen with whiteball specialists Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis gives them a genuinely lethal top-to-middle order. The message to the league is clear: they're not just participating, they're investing to win.

Bottom line: Allen's a proven match-winner entering his prime (27), and the Stars are banking on him turning their long-dormant title drought into a contender's run. If the numbers hold, this could be exactly the kind of value play that pays dividends.
