‘October 2027 is far away’: Rohit Sharma on WC future, begins prep for WI ODIs

🏏 Rohit Sharma opens door on 2027 ODI WC future
The veteran batter has refused to look too far ahead when it comes to the 2027 ODI World Cup. Speaking at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai today, Rohit, 39, kept his cards close when asked about his chances: "October 2027 is far away, we will see about it then."
He has already stepped away from T20Is and Tests, leaving ODIs as his lone international format—and his form keeps that career extension firmly on the table.
Why all the chatter?
During India's England tour, pundits wondered if the 3rd ODI at Lord's could be his final international game. Instead, he fired a sensational 138 off 110 balls—17 fours and 5 sixes—in a run chase of 388. India lost by 27, but the knock reminded everyone why he's a match-definer. He closed that series with 175 runs @ 58.33 avg and a 98.31 SR.
This year in ODIs: 379 runs in 9 innings, 42.11 avg, SR pushing 99, with a century and a fifty.
Board backs him
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia shut down the noise: "He is playing superbly in all matches. So what more do you want? Why is there any speculation?"
Looking ahead
Rohit's already into training for India's home ODI series vs the West Indies, kicking off Sept 27. His media handle 'Team Ro' shared a clip of his trademark strokeplay, captioned just: "Finesse."
On a possible open-bus parade in Mumbai if India lift the 2027 WC (like the 2024 T20 WC celebration): "I do not think a bus parade would be possible now."
Stay tuned, folks! 🌟
