Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq summoned by Pakistan's cyber crime agency over phone data

Rizwan, ImamulHaq Summoned by Cybercrime Agency Over Phone Data — Pakistan in Full Turmoil

Big developments out of Pakistan cricket. The NCCIA (National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency) has formally summoned WK-bat Mohammad Rizwan and opener Imam-ul-Hq into an inquiry over phone data seized during the disastrous Test tour of England. A third player's identity is being held under wraps for now.

Here's the calculus: the NCCIA sits under the Federal Ministry of Interior — the same ministry currently headed by Mohsin Naqvi, who also holds the PCB chairman chair. That dual hat-wearing adds a serious institutional weight to this. This isn't just a routine inquiry; there's overlap at the top that demands attention.

Timeline of the mess

It all traces back to the Lord's Test. PCB security confiscated both Rizwan's and Imam's phones post-match, and extracted data was handed to authorities. Pakistan got hammered 3-0 in that series, with the Lord's defeat being the second blow. Poor form and off-field issues combined to detonate the whole tour.

The human capital hit was brutal:

- Imam tore a calf muscle fielding on Day 1 of the 2nd Test — couldn't even bat.

- Rizwan managed a paltry 8 runs across both innings.

- Both got sent home early, along with five more squad members.

- Coaching staff took the axe too — head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul both walked.

PCB's position

The board is running an internal disciplinary inquiry but keeping its mouth shut on specifics. Amir Mir, PCB's Director Media & Digital Communications, dropped the standard line:

"The PCB handles such matters in accordance with its standard procedures. The process is being conducted under PCB regulations, ensuring that all concerned individuals are given due consideration… The PCB will not comment further at this time."

The unquantified variables

For anyone trying to price in the risk here, several factors remain unconfirmed: the identity of that third summoned player, exactly what phone data is under review, the agency's inquiry timeline, and whether formal charges ever materialize.

Bottom line: Pakistan cricket is in a genuine crisis cycle. The convergence of board leadership, cybercrime investigation, and player conduct creates a situation with real fallout potential. Watch this space closely — the third player's name, when it drops, will tell you a lot about how serious this really is.
