Skipper Nkomo Returns As Zimbabwe Announce Squad For South Africa T20Is

Nkomo Fit & Back to Lead: Zimbabwe Announce Squad for SA T20I Series
Big injury boost for Zimbabwe women ahead of their historic 5-match T20I series vs South Africa — skipper Josephine Nkomo has been declared fit and will return to lead the squad. She missed the whiteball tour of Pakistan in May with an injury but has now fully recovered over the past three months.
From a medical standpoint, I always appreciate seeing a captain cleared for full duty after time out — leadership continuity matters as much as physical readiness. She'll anchor a 17-member squad, with veteran batter Sharne Mayers also returning after a two-year absence (33 T20Is under her belt). Allrounder Nyasha Gwanzura is back too.
Established names like Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Modester Mupachikwa, Loreen Tshuma and Loryn Phiri keep their spots after a solid Pakistan series, while three U19 Women's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 stars from Dar es Salaam — captain Lorraine Pemhiwa, Beloved Biza and Christina Mutasa — get the chance to step onto the bigger stage.
New head coach Mark Coles (ex-Pakistan & Scotland women's sides) takes charge of his first assignment. Series kicks off tmr (Fri 11 Sep) at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, with the rest on 13, 15, 17 & 19 Sep. First home action since the UAE series in late 2025.
Squad: Josephine Nkomo (c), Beloved Biza, Kudzai Chigora, Francesca Chipare, Nyasha Gwanzura, Lindokuhle Mabhera, Tendai Makusha, Michelle Mavunga, Sharne Mayers, Modester Mupachikwa, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Christina Mutasa, Kelis Ndhlovu, Lorraine Pemhiwa, Loryn Phiri, Nomvelo Sibanda, Loreen Tshuma.
