David Miller’s Late Heroics Help Belfast Wolves Beat Amsterdam Flames by 5 Wickets

Miller's Late Firepower Sends Belfast Wolves Past Flames

Match 20 at Malahide was a proper nail-biter, and David Miller delivered when it mattered most. Belfast Wolves chased down 142 with one over to spare, winning by 5 wickets.

Amsterdam's Batting Display

Asked to bat first, the Flames got off the ground quickly. Bas de Leede struck 39 off 20 (5x4, 2x6), with Curtis Campher (22 off 13) and Tim David (17 off 10) adding quick runs. Scott Edwards anchored with a composed 20 off 18, and Tim Pringle finished unbeaten on 15. Amsterdam reached 141 all out in 20 overs—a total built on bursts of acceleration rather than long partnerships.

Belfast's Bowling Attack

Mark Adair led the charge with 3/25 from 4 overs. Saurabh Netravalkar, Fred Klaassen and Matthew Humphreys chipped in with 2 wickets each. Amsterdam lost their last 7 wickets for 64, leaving Belfast with a modest 142 target.

The Chase

Paul Stirling gave a positive start with 26 off 16, but his dismissal at 35 let Amsterdam back in. Lorcan Tucker (16 off 12) and Harry Manenti (33 off 34) helped Belfast rebuild. The match stayed balanced until Chapman fell at 100—Belfast still needed 42 from 33 balls.

Glenn Maxwell got out for 6, leaving Wolves at 127/5 after 18 overs. Just 15 needed from the final 2 overs, but the pressure never fully broke.

Miller Takes Over

That's when the South African found another gear. His unbeaten 42 off 26 (4x6), striking at 161.53, included two towering sixes in the closing overs that killed the tension. Chris Jordan sealed it with a boundary off the final delivery—Belfast reached 144/5 in 19 overs.

League Implications

A clinical finish from a pro who's faced this pressure before. Belfast now sit 2nd on 9 points, just 2 behind leaders Edinburgh Castle Rockers, with a top-3 finish—and a direct final spot—on the line. Amsterdam remain in the hunt in 4th on 7 points. De Leede's tournament continues to shine with 235 runs (3rd in run-scorers).

Tightly contested league—both sides still have plenty to play for.
