Teenage debutant takes five-for against defending champions to keep county’s survival hopes alive

Teen Sensation Manny Lumsden's 5-Wicket Haul Keeps Hampshire's Division One Survival Hopes Alive

What a debut! 17-year-old Manny Lumsden announced himself on the first-class stage with a five-wicket haul, giving Hampshire a real shot at survival against defending champions Nottinghamshire in Championship Division One.

First Innings

Notts batted first and posted 377, powered by Joe Clarke's gritty 105 off 166 balls and a crucial 92 from Patterson-White. Kyle Abbott and Scott Currie both picked up four wickets for Hampshire. In reply, Jake Lehmann's unbeaten 133 led Hampshire to 304, with Stone, Pennington and Sheat claiming three wickets each.

Second Innings

After a shaky start—conceding 80 in 12 overs for just one wicket—Lumsden stepped up big time in the second spell. Hampshire tore through Notts, crashing from 130-4 down to 47-6 for just 34 runs. Eddie Jack (3) and Scott Currie (2) also made an impact alongside the youngster.

Lumsden, introduced in the 16th over, struck quickly, removing Haynes and Mitchell Hay inside seven deliveries. He then sent Olly Stone, Joe Clarke and Dillon Pennington packing (the latter skying a wild slog) to finish with 5/—leaving Hampshire needing just 178 to win.

Where Things Stand

Hampshire slumped to 276 before Ben Mayes (21*) and Currie (13*) added a stand of 34 to steady the ship. At the last update, they were 61-6, still needing 117 more on the final day.

The Bigger Picture

Hampshire sit bottom of Division One on 88 points, 28 adrift of ninth-placed Leicestershire. A win plus four bonus points would take them to 108—closing the gap before the relegation-zone clash rounds off next week.

Huge props to Lumsden for a debut the cricketing world won't forget. 🏏
