‘He’s taken all the credit’ - Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi engage in hilarious DRS banter after Duleep Trophy triumph

DRS Drama & Banter: Kishan & Youngster Suryavanshi Steal the Duleep Trophy Final Show

East Zone lifted the Duleep Trophy 2026 trophy after their final against South Zone finished drawn—but with the crucial first-innings lead doing the talking. And honestly? The real story was the crack banter between captain Ishan Kishan and teenage vice-captain Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

The 15-year-old made waves with some confident DRS calls, and after the match, Kishan joked that his young man had grabbed all the glory. According to Kishan, he was already planning to review when Suryavanshi confidently pushed for the call. "He took all the credit everywhere. I was going to review anyway, but he came in so confidently that the internet went wild—'Vaibhav is the one!'" Kishan laughed.

Naturally, Suryavanshi fired back: "When you stepped off the field, who was taking the reviews? Tell us about that too."

And there was a valid point. During a brief spell where Kishan was off the field, Suryavanshi stepped up and pulled off a review of his own. Mohammed Shami nipped one to graze Smaran Ravichandran's bat, and with Kumar Kushagra appealing hard, the youngster signaled the review instantly. Ravichandran got a well-earned digout for 23, and the East Zone dugout exploded.

Beyond the stats—44 off 37 with a six in the first innings, then a quick eight in the second—Kishan made clear his admiration runs deeper. "More than a great player, he's a decent human who looks after everyone, juniors and seniors alike. That's the quality I love. Hope he gets even more dangerous than he is today."

Bottom line: East Zone's title was sealed on that first-innings edge, but the Suryavanshi kid has clearly announced himself. Keep an eye on this one—he's just getting started.
