Not Shubman Gill Or Rishabh Pant, Trent Boult Names This India Star As Player To Watch In New Zealand Test Series

Boult's Pick: KL Rahul, Not Gill or Pant, to Be India's Key Batter in NZ Tests
Namaste, cricket lovers. Let me share a piece that struck a chord with me—like hearing a well-composed alap before the rhythm truly builds.
The legendary left-arm quick Trent Boult has spoken, and his choice may surprise a few. When asked who to watch in India's upcoming two-Test tour of New Zealand, the 37-year-old wicket-taker (317 Test wickets) named veteran opener KL Rahul as India's main batter—not Shubman Gill or Rishabh Pant.
"I'm always a big fan of KL Rahul and his style of batsmanship. He's a big player at the top of the order," Boult shared in an exclusive PTI interview. "I believe Jaiswal is there as well. Two classy batters to see bat."
The Tour Ahead
The marathon journey kicks off Oct 22, blending the Tests (from Nov 19) with 10 whiteball games. It's a special one—marking the centenary of India-New Zealand sporting ties.
A Cold Challenge Awaits
Boult warns the late October timing—rather than the usual Feb-Mar window—brings untested conditions. "Coming out of winter, it's going to be quite cold. Hopefully there's a bit of greenness in the wickets for some of our bowlers," he noted, eyeing Wellington and Christchurch.
A New-Blood Bowling Attack
Though Boult, Southee and Wagner formed a fearsome new-ball trio, he believes today's crop—Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Nathan Smith, Will O'Rourke—brings fresh variety. He paid heartfelt tribute to Neil Wagner, calling his ability to "find something out of nothing" truly unique.
A new look Kiwi side, an experienced Rahul at the crease. This series promises melody. 🏏
