Cricketers retired in 2026 so far

Big names call it quits in 2026 — here's the full retirement tally

2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for retirements. Unlike the usual post-ICC-tournament exodus, these veterans have walked away at staggered points throughout the calendar, and the list reads like a who's who of the last decade.

The marquee exits: Kane Williamson (NZ, Jun 12) and Ben Stokes (Eng, Jun 29) are the two that hit hardest — both former captains stepping down mid-career rather than at a tournament's end. In India, Ajinkya Rahane (Jul 30) closed the book on a career built on grit, joining Vijay Shankar (May 22) earlier in the year.

The rest of the roster:

- Australia: Usman Khawaja (Jan 02) and Kane Richardson (Jan 28)

- Pakistan: Sarfaraz Ahmed (Mar 15) — a huge loss for white-ball leadership

- South Africa: Rassie van der Dussen (Apr 02)

- Bangladesh: Rubel Hossain (Apr 16)

- Canada: Navneet Dhaliwal (Feb 18)

What it means: A whole generation of captains and anchor batsmen has exited at once. Watch for the ripple effect on team composition — teams will need to rebuild middle-order stability and leadership depth across multiple fronts. The void left by Stokes and Williamson in particular will define their teams' strategy for years to come.
