'I definitely know how his mind works': Shreyas Iyer on Gautam Gambhir

Iyer Gambhir Connection: How the KKR Bond is Fueling India's T20 Push 🏏

New Delhi is buzzing ahead of tonight's first T20I vs Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, and our skipper Shreyas Iyer is leaning hard on that special rapport with head coach Gautam Gambhir.

The KKR Foundation 💪

Both have already written success together—2024 IPL title, with Iyer captaining and Gauti mentoring. Iyer says that shared history gives him a clear read on his coach's mind:

"I definitely know how his mind works... He's got a very aggressive mindset. Always looking to win."

It's that one-on-one player management that Iyer values most—building trust, clarity of role, and confidence across the dressing room. Every player is different, and Gauti's individual approach is exactly what's needed going forward.

Bouncing Back 📈

Not everything was smooth—India dropped series in Ireland and England—but Iyer then guided the side to a clean sweep vs Zimbabwe in July (with VVS Laxman stepping in as standin coach). Now, with more matches under their belt, the bond only deepens.

Stay in the Present 🎯

No looking too far ahead. Iyer insists on a game-by-game approach, Afghanistan first. Prep's been promising, players in great shape, and the focus is sharp.

Asian Games Dream 🥇

Bonus excitement—this marks Iyer's first Asian Games, where India defends the gold. He's eager to rub shoulders with hockey and Olympic stars, learn their mindset, and bring home triumph for the nation. First up? A historic clash vs Japan.

Let's go India! 🔴🟢
