Baartman Ruled Out Of Australia ODIs With Hamstring Injury, Duan Jansen Named Replacement

Proteas Hit by Hamstring Woes — Baartman Out, Jansen In
Ranchi: South Africa's injury worries keep stacking up ahead of the ODI series vs Australia (starts Sept 24 in Durban). Right-arm medium pacer Ottneil Baartman has been ruled out with a left hamstring injury, and Duan Jansen has been named as his replacement. Duan will join the squad + his brother Marco in Durban on Sept 19.
From a sports-medicine lens, hamstring strains are notorious for re-injury if players return too soon — so this is exactly the kind of workload call I'd flag carefully. Baartman is now the second seamer to miss the ODIs, following Kagiso Rabada, who's nursing a similar hamstring concern. CSA will assess Rabada's availability for the Test series closer to its Oct 9 start.
Squad Notes:
- 16-member squad named last week, as close to full strength as possible
- Temba Bavuma back as captain; David Miller + Quinton de Kock in the mix
- Gerald Coetzee returns (last ODI: 2023 WC) to fill Rabada's void
- Aiden Markram available from the 2nd ODI onwards
- Dewald Brevis omitted — focusing on first-class/Test season prep
Full ODI Squad: Temba Bavuma (capt), Duan Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs
With two swing bowlers now sidelined, the bowling attack looks thinner than ideal. Worth watching how CSA manages the remaining pacers' workload across this back-to-back ODI + Test block.
