"Proud Moment For Indian Cricket": PM Narendra Modi On Women's Asia Cup Triumph

Ek shubh ghadi for Indian cricket, community. 🎶
The Women in Blue have once again raised the Women's Asia Cup high—our eighth title, a record that stretches further than any rival. A 72-run victory over Sri Lanka in Sunday's final, and a sweet revenge for our 2024 heartbreak against the same side. PM Narendra Modi called it a "proud moment," and truly, the confidence and consistency on display warranted it.
The foundation was laid in rhythm and tempo. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana shared a monumental 129-run stand for the opening wicket—both reaching their half-centuries. Shafali, oh what fire!—68 off 39 balls, and she carved the fastest ton in Asia Cup history, her century arriving off just 24 deliveries. Mandhana, composed and classical in her approach, leaned on 59 from 39. India posted a sturdy 183/5.
Where the melody faltered, the support held firm. Harmanpreet Kaur, our captain, departed early for 14, and Richa Ghosh for 17, but a quick-fire 15 off five balls by newcomer G Kamalini gave the innings a spirited coda.
And the bowling closed the symphony. Shree Charani was the star, picking up 4 wickets, with Deepti Sharma adding 2 more. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111—Chamari Athapaththu top-scoring with 36.
A fitting homage to Rahul Dravid's legendary defence, one might say—this team plays with the patience of an alap building toward a crescendo. Jai Hind. 🇮🇳
Final: India beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs. Women's Asia Cup x8. 🏆
