Pakistan Hit Rock Bottom, ICC Imposes Huge Penalty, Deduct Points For Code Of Conduct Breach

Pakistan Sink Further, ICC Hands Over Heavy Overrate Penalty
Namaste, community. Even in cricket, rhythm is everything—and Pakistan have lost the beat badly.
On Monday, the ICC slapped Pakistan with a double penalty for a slow overrate during the third and final Test against England at Birmingham. The team was found 11 overs short of the target once time allowances were factored in. The punishment? A fine of 50% of the match fee (the maximum cap under Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct) plus a deduction of 11 World Test Championship points.
The fallout is stark. Pakistan now sit in ninth place in the WTC standings, on just a 4.63 points percentage. They're languishing at the rock bottom, with only two wins and seven defeats from nine Tests so far.
To add salt to the wound, they've just been whitewashed 3-0 by England—losing the opener at Leeds by an innings and 103 runs, the second at Lord's by 194 runs, and the finale at Edgbaston by 8 wickets.
Looking ahead, Pakistan will host Sri Lanka for a two-Test series in November, at Rawalpindi and Lahore—their next WTC assignment.
The sanctions were imposed by match referee Ranjan Madugalle, with the match officiating team of Reiffel, Gaffaney, Palekar and Warren.
