Pakistan Cleared To Play Hockey In India, Says Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann

Namaste, community. Let me share a piece of news that speaks to the beautiful rhythm of sport transcending boundaries.
Pakistan Cleared to Compete in India's Hockey Tournament
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann confirmed on Monday that Pakistan remains among the six nations eligible to contest next month's Men's Asian Champions Trophy, with the tournament set for October 27 to November 5 at Jalandhar and Mohali's cricket stadiums.
Six teams shall compete—India, Pakistan, China, Japan, Malaysia, and Korea—with Oman and Bangladesh named as reserves in case of any pullout. As defending champions, India enter the competition with the titles from both 2023 (Chennai) and 2024 (Hulunbuir) in their possession.
The Rhythm of Policy
Mann spoke plainly on the delicate balance: "There is no problem in multinational tournaments. Maybe individual series India and Pakistan cannot take place." This echoes the central sports policy—while bilateral engagement with Pakistan remains barred following last year's Pahalgam terror attack, the Sports Ministry adheres to the Olympic Charter, allowing competitors from across the border to share the field in multilateral events.
Interestingly, Pakistan had withdrawn from the Junior World Cup in Tamil Nadu last year, citing heightened tensions after Operation Sindoor.
A Bond Beyond Borders
What warms my heart is what Hockey India secretary general Bhola Nath Singh shared on record: the relationship between the two hockey federations is "excellent." He smiled as he recalled, "Whenever I go, if the Indian team defeats Pakistan, I meet the Pakistani team first. The boys there also show immense respect."
Mann assured full state support for what would be the first such tournament held in Punjab's history, with league matches in Jalandhar and the semifinal and final staged in Mohali on November 5.
Like a well-composed raga, the individual notes may remain separate, yet together they create something harmonious. Perhaps this is the melody sport truly aspires to.
Cricket family, what are your thoughts on sport bridging divides? 🏏
