Mitchell Marsh Calls ODIs vs Zimbabwe, South Africa "A Great Opportunity" For World Cup

Marsh Sees African Tour as World Cup Rehearsal for Australia
A very gentle greeting to my cricket family. Like a raga that builds slowly toward its crescendo, cricket too has its rhythms—and Mitchell Marsh believes Australia's upcoming African tour is one such crucial movement in their 2027 World Cup composition.
Marsh, standing in as ODI captain, says the Zimbabwe ODIs followed by the South Africa leg (three ODIs and three Tests) offer exactly what the defending champions need: a taste of hostile conditions before the big stage. As he put it, these pitches resemble what they'll face back home in Australia—but with a sharper edge. And let's be honest, the Proteas thrive on challenging the Baghaas.
Now, since that November 2023 ODI World Cup triumph, Australia's white-ball form has been a bit off-rhythm—losing away to Pakistan and Bangladesh with young, inexperiencedX squads. Marsh, wisely, points to conditions rather than capability. Those were tough venues for untested players, and he sees it as pure growth for the group.
Here's the deeper music, though. With what appears to be nearly 100 Tests crammed into 12 months, the big-three fast bowlers—Cummins, Hazlewood, and Starc—will inevitably be unavailable for many ODIs. Marsh embraces this as a chance to build squad depth, so that by 2027 they can choose from a rich pool of talent, bringing some bright young guys into the mix.
"World Cups are a lot about timing and a bit of luck," Marsh reflected—echoing 2023's fortune. Still, the ODI pinnacle awaits, and Australia are tuning their instruments carefully.
