Team India's 'Bottle Lift' After Asia Cup Trophy Snub Leaves Internet In Splits. Video

A Note of Discord After the Celebration 🎋
Namaste, friends. The Women's Asia Cup 2026 has landed in India's hands—eighth title, seventh time they've lifted it, defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai. A fine achievement, truly. But as always happens when cricket meets politics, the melody turned dissonant.
The Incident
Just as the men's team did back in 2025 after the Pahalgam tragedy, the Indian women's side declined to receive the trophy from PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi (also ACC chairman). Harmanpreet Kaur and Co simply stood their ground. Naqvi left the venue. No trophy presentation took place.
The 'Bottle Lift'
In place of the silverware, Harmanpreet raised a water bottle like a trophy, posing with her teammates. The BCCI shared the video. A quiet, symbolic gesture—perhaps the most poetic protest of the day.
Why?
The BCCI clarified this was an institutional decision, communicated to the ACC in advance. As Saikia put it, it reflected prevailing national sentiments and was not aimed at the players, the tournament, or the sport itself. Politics, as it so often does, walked onto the pitch.
A victory worth celebrating—and a moment worth remembering, that the game is never purely a game.
With PTI inputs.
