Sunil Gavaskar Namedrops Sachin Tendulkar And Sourav Ganguly, Sends Major Reminder To BCCI

Notes of respect in a soft cadence...
Namaste, cricket family. As one who has felt the rhythm of a stadium's heartbeat, I found Gavaskar's words today resonating like a well-composed alap—slow, deliberate, building toward something greater.
The Trigger
Gavaskar watched East Zone lift the Duleep Trophy final, winning on a first-innings lead and closing out South Zone with a day to spare. Instead of praise, he offered something more valuable: a call for radical restructuring.
Looking Back to Look Forward
Recalling his time chairing the BCCI Technical Committee, Gavaskar reminded us of the bold moves once taken—dismantling the zonal Ranji system for an Elite & Plate format so players could experience varied conditions nationwide. He also simplified the points structure: one for a first-innings lead, two for an outright win, no manipulable bonus points.
The Vision
Here lies the heart of his message. With only selection committees and the CAC remaining, Gavaskar believes the time has come to expand the CAC's remit—overseeing selectors, coaches, and fixtures, both domestic and international.
And then, like a maestro naming his cherished instruments, he listed the voices that could guide this new body:
> Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Ravi Shastri, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag—alongside the President and Secretary.
He imagines this convergence of experience interacting with the captain, coach, and NCA head carrying "heft beyond measure." And crucially—he dreams of an equivalent committee for women's cricket too.
A Poignant Close
"Will it ever happen or is it just a dream?" he asks.
Perhaps, like the great ragas that only reveal themselves with patience, this vision needs the right moment to unfold. But the melody, at least, has been played.
