Pakistan's Mohsin Naqvi Slammed For "Running Away" With Asia Cup Trophies: "Why Do We Even Play?"

Another Asia Cup, another trophy drama at Dubai. For the second year running, the winning team didn't receive the silverware—2025 the men, 2026 the women, and this time it was against Sri Lanka. The Indian women have now lifted the Asia Cup a record eighth time, yet once again the trophy didn't change hands.
The common thread? Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi—who is also Pakistan's interior minister—presenting it. Former India star Aakash Chopra didn't hold back, aiming his arrows straight at him. "He comes, and he runs away with the trophy. The Indian team doesn't take it from him. We all know it," Chopra said, before voicing a frustration many fans feel: "If this keeps happening, why do we even play the Asia Cup?"
The BCCI, however, painted a calmer picture. VP Rajeev Shukla said the team's decision to decline the trophy from Naqvi was reached after careful discussion, and insisted there was no scene—no quarrel, no clash. "They gave what they had and left," he noted, gently pushing back on sharper criticism coming from some quarters.
So the riddle lingers: a tournament India dominates on the pitch, yet the trophy ritual keeps haunting the victories. A rhythm out of tune, if you ask me.
