Kuldeep Yadav Breaks Silence On India Snub After Career-Best County Championship Haul

Kuldeep's County Masterclass Echoes His Quiet Longing for a Home Comeback
Namaste, friends. There is a rhythm to every cricketer's journey—a moment of silence before the music returns. Kuldeep Yadav's recent spell in the County Championship has been nothing short of a raga played to perfection.
The left-arm wristspinner spun Yorkshire to an innings-and-106 victory over Essex at Headingley, claiming a career-best 10-wicket match haul (4/50 and 6/50). In just three days, he secured the club's Division One status and earned the Championship Player of the Round award with his figures of 10/120. A first-class milestone achieved not with noise, but with the calm precision of a sitar master.
Yet beneath this triumph lies a quieter truth. Kuldeep, who joined Yorkshire on a short-term contract in July, has not featured regularly in India's playing XI. Speaking with Neil Manthorp and Steve Harmison on talkSPORT, he spoke candidly:
"Definitely, you feel bad for yourself when you're not playing, when you're not part of the playing XI. You want to play... but sometimes it doesn't happen because of whatever the management thinks. Last year I was hoping to get a chance in a few games, but it's okay. Maybe next time."
There is acceptance there—the patience of one who understands that even the greatest melodies require pauses.
He came to England not to prove critics wrong, but to enjoy the craft. "When you are enjoying, you end up bowling to the best of your ability," he said, noting how English conditions—dry southern pitches, cold northern tracks—prepare spinners for challenges they'd never face back home.
For a man who once compared Rahul Dravid's defense to the 'alap' of a raga, this county stint feels like its own opening passage—a meditation before the main theme returns. Whether India's management listens before "next time" remains to be seen.
May his next opportunity come soon. 🏏
