Sri Lanka bring in Malinga with Hasaranga ruled out of series

England unchanged from victory in Durham for second ODI

Toss Sri Lanka chose to bat vs England

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first in Headingley, as they continue to look for their first taste of victory on tour.

England maintained their dominance over the visitors with a comfortable 89-run victory in the first ODI on a fairly tacky surface, but the pitch in Leeds is expected to be much quicker with more assistance for the seamers.

"We bowled really well, and the fielding was very good," Mendis said at the toss. "Today, we have to bat a little bit better compared to the last match. It looks like a very good wicket. We have to put a very [big] score on the board."

Harry Brook said: "We would have had a bowl, so we're pretty pleased with that. I like batting here. I like playing here in front of my home crowd. It looks [like] a good wicket, hence why we wanted to chase. It's a tough ground to defend, quick outfield, good pitch. Hopefully we can restrict them to a low score."

England hold a pretty even record at Headingley but have lost their last two games at the venue, as well as being beaten by Sri Lanka on the ground during the 2019 World Cup.

That Lankan triumph was instigated by an inspired Lasith Malinga, and it's another Malinga - Eshan - who will be looking to do similar as he comes in for Dushmantha Chameera.

Sri Lanka have also confirmed that Wanindu Hasaranga is out for the remainder of the series and will fly home after experiencing lower back pain. That means another game for legspinner Sachindu Colombage, who claimed 3 for 44 on debut last time out.

England have named an unchanged XI.

England: 1 Tom Banton, 2 Ben Duckett, 3 Joe Root, 4 Harry Brook (capt), 5 Jos Buttler (wk), 6 Will Jacks, 7 Rehan Ahmed, 8 Jamie Overton, 9 Gus Atkinson, 10 Jofra Archer, 11 Josh Tongue

Sri Lanka: 1 Pathum Nissanka, 2 Kamindu Mendis, 3 Kusal Mendis (capt & wk), 4 Pavan Rathnayake, 5 Charith Asalanka, 6 Janith Liyanage, 7 Dunith Wellalage, 8 Sachindu Colombage, 9 Eshan Malinga, 10 Asitha Fernando, 11 Dilshan Madushanka
